Team India has appointed Surya Kumar Yadav as the new Indian T20 Captain for the upcoming India tour of Sri Lanka. There have been recent reports suggesting that Hardik’s health problems might lead the selectors to decide against promoting him to the captaincy position.
Surya Kumar Yadav, who has participated in 68 T20Is, took charge of the team in matches against Australia and South Africa last year when important players were missing, but has been appointed as the new Indian T20 captain.
Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana received their first call-ups to the India ODI team as the BCCI revealed the eagerly awaited teams for the India vs Sri Lanka white-ball tour, which is set to begin on July 27. Rohit Sharma has returned as the ODI captain.
The selectors have also appointed Shubman Gill as the vice captain for both ODI and T20 teams following his recent leadership of India during the tour in Zimbabwe.
Jasprit Bumrah has taken a break from the tour and Jadeja was not picked, while players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will participate in the One Day Internationals.
The upcoming India tour of Sri Lanka marks a new chapter for Gautam Gambhir who is about to start his coaching role as he replaces Rahul Dravid as a new head coach of Indian Cricket team. The last time India toured Sri Lanka for the bilateral series was in back 2021.
