Copa America: Argentina vs Ecuador

Despites Messi’s miss in Penalty Shoot out, Argentina emerged victorious in the quarter final.

In the first quarter final match between Argentina vs Ecuador of Copa America 2024, Messi’s shot was off, Argentina still clinched a 4-2 (1-1) victory in a penalty shootout, moving on to the semi-finals. Messi appeared devastated and stunned after his miss. Messi failed to score the first penalty, hitting the ball just over the bar. Indeed, Messi was the sole Argentine player to miss a penalty in the shootout.

Messi took a break on Saturday for the 2-0 victory against Peru in Miami, following the nine changes implemented by coach Lionel Scaloni. However, he was back in the starting lineup for the final eight games at NRG Stadium.

Ecuador were devastated after losing a match between Argentina vs Ecuador in which they had managed to create numerous chances to secure a victory.

Lautaro Martinez, who has been the leading goal scorer in the competition with four goals across three matches, keeps his position in the attacking lineup, moving ahead of Julian Alvarez. Coach Scaloni has gone back to his original positions in the midfield and defense, similar to the setup he employed against Chile in the final match of the group stage, which the world champions emerged victorious with a score of 1-0.

Argentina will now face off against either Venezuela or Canada in the semifinal in New Jersey, which promises to be an exciting match-up
